Hillside Garden Ace Hardware is a family-owned and operated hardware store & garden center located in Belmont Massachusetts. For over 80 years, we have taken pride in offering a wide selection of quality plants, yard products, and gardening accessories, and we are looking for a customer service superstar to join our team!

OBJECTIVE

The Sales Associate is responsible for engaging with customers on a routine basis in order to provide the highest level of customer service. Maintenance of merchandise as well as the knowledge of products, and locations, is key in optimizing the shopping experience of the customer.

  • Strong Knowledge of Perennials/Annuals and or Herbs and Veggies, or past employment experience in these areas is HIGHLY PREFERRED!
  • Basic knowledge of soils, fertilizers, pests, and plant-related disease a plus
  • Engage with customers by greeting, acknowledging, and offering product recommendations based on strong product and property knowledge
  • Communicate with team members based on customer inquiries in order to provide outstanding customer service
  • Assist with the movement of inventory through restocking, floor moves, and display maintenance
  • Perform other general maintenance tasks including housekeeping and product maintenance
  • Maintain knowledge of company policies and procedures when pricing merchandise
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required
  • Ability to operate forklift and front-loader, or willingness to learn

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Work or personal experience in the retail, horticultural, or gardening fields preferred. A demonstrated ability to offer excellent customer service skills, and strong verbal communication skills.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in an active retail store environment. This job may be either indoors or outdoors or both. Work in hot and humid temperatures will be necessary.

This position requires frequent standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and / or crawling. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Flexible hours. Work schedule will consist of shifts between the hours of 8am and 7pm, totaling between 26 and 40 hours per-week.
