Position Summary

This position performs home visits to assess the viability of delivery and installation of hearth products and hot tubs.                    

Major Responsibilities

  • Self -manage the following on all job sites: assess installation and delivery logistics regarding proper and safe delivery and installation of all Hearth products and Hot tubs. Must take into account materials needed as well as proper staffing to complete the jobs. Adhering to all safety guidelines.
  • Maintain clear and accurate paperwork regarding all visits.
  • Communicate in detail with Service Coordinators, Operations director and Hearth Category Management.
  • Communicate with customers within 24-48 or receiving order paperwork.
  • Schedule a visit with customer within 7 days of receiving paperwork (based on customer availability)
  • Safely climb and work off ladders as needed
  • Must acquire and maintain NFI Specialist Certification in pellet, wood and gas.
  • Possess complete understanding of all manufacturers’ install requirements and venting clearances.
  • Follow company field procedures and protocols at all times.
  • Understand and comprehend company policy on warranty, trip charge
  • Abide by company non-solicitation agreement.
  • Report any misuse of company time and monies in order to protect company assets.
  • Maintain company tools and equipment as provided to you.
  • Operate company vehicle in a safe manner at all times when company vehicle use is needed. Technicians must not use hand held cell phone at any time. Pull over to make calls.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge and understanding of the use safety and installation requirements
  • Must be familiar with all ladder safety requirements.
  • Must maintain a valid driving license.
  • Provide Company with Maryland Driving Record at any time it is requested.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Maintain NFI Training Certifications, and attend classes as needed. 
  • Demonstrate willingness to submit to Drug and Alcohol testing as needed and when requested by senior management or Human Resources.
  • Fireplace and Hot Tub site survey technician will be held accountable to daily, weekly, and monthly reporting covering hours worked, and customer home visits performed. 

Work Requirements Pertaining to Seasonality:


  1. Must be available to work up to 6 days and/or 60 hours per week from November 1 – February 28th at the discretion of the Company Management.
  2. Fireplace and Hot tub Service Technician: Vacation requests are blacked out from Nov 1- February 28Th.  All vacation days requested must be approved directly by the Director of Costello’s Maryland Operations prior to assuming the requested days are approved. All vacation requests must not create a situation where the Technician is not available to provide scheduled service for more than two days of any seven-day week, Monday - Sunday.
  3. Fireplace and Hot Tub Technician must be willing to be redeployed at any time to work in the Ace Hardware store in any capacity when directed by management from March 1 – October 30. This period is also available for the Technician to schedule approved paid or unpaid time off.

  • Hand Dexterity; Frequent; Must be able to use at least one hand to operate register and complete paperwork
  • Pushing / Pulling; Frequent; Move hand jacks from place to place
  • Carrying; Frequent; Up to 50 lbs., up to 10 feet, occasionally more
  • Climbing; In-frequent; Stairs in storage rooms; ladders
  • Vision; Constant; Read labels, recognize boxes, safety in working
  • Hearing; Constant; Safety signals
