Position Summary

Upholds the Core Values as determined by the management team. Primary responsibility for all positions with W.D. Bryant Ace Hardware is to Amaze Every Customer Every Time. Lumber yard associates are responsible for engaging the customer, ensuring they receive everything they purchased promptly and professionally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Help unload incoming trucks, stock outside products in Lumber Yard and outbuildings, and bring store merchandise to the store.

• Load customer purchases in their vehicle using their Loading Ticket to make sure they receive exactly what they paid for, nothing more or less.

• Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management displaying a “Speed is Life” attitude. Move with a sense of urgency while paying attention to the details.

  • Cooperate with others and work well as part of a retail team, for example actively participate in daily huddle meetings, and share ideas for improvement with management.
  • Watch for shoplifters and act, in line with company policy, that will discourage shoplifting. Excellent customer service and interaction prevents shoplifting.

• Provide the best possible experience for Every Customer, Every Time by being helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly.

• Actively participate in in-store communication and initiatives (e.g., Communication Board, Daily Huddle, store contests, etc.)

• Assist Customers with simple complaints/concerns; get a manager involved with problems as needed.

• Use the Five Foot Rule – always greet and/or acknowledge all customers within five feet of you.

• Always be polite and attentive to customers. Make eye contact and smile. Do not avoid customers.

• Always wear your radio to effectively communicate with other associates or management.

• Assist in the training and development of peers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Experience in stocking in a warehouse or lumber yard setting is strongly preferred.

• Experience in forklift operation and/or commercial truck driving is preferred.

• Able to communicate professionally with customers and team members.

• Skilled at providing prompt, friendly, and attentive customer service.

• Strong organizational skills with a passion for details

• Proven track record of being a team player.

• A continuous pattern of regular and prompt attendance is required.

• Availability must be flexible, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

• Ability to stand for an extended period, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties.

• Move and handle merchandise of 80+ pounds for continuous periods of time

Position Summary:

You’ll work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment where you will make daily deliveries to commercial and residential customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ability to safely load, unload, and move products in an efficient manner and in the customer's best interest.

• Communicate with customers via phone to schedule deliveries and deliver the merchandise with care.

• May use the Ace delivery smartphone application to facilitate the delivery process.

• Perform daily pre- and post-trip safety inspections on all equipment and follow up with any deficits with the Store Manager.

• Communicate with the store management as needed and follow instructions as required including but not limited to changes in route, special requests, and/or equipment problems.

• Frequently lift heavy items up to 70 pounds and use the “team lift” technique or hand truck/cart for greater weights.

• Sit for extended periods and bend, twist, and squat to climb in and out of the truck.

Required Qualifications

Experience:

a minimum of 5 years store management experience. Retail experience and/or hardware, expertise

in a specific department, Shop services, or tool knowledge is strongly

preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years of

age and possess a valid driver’s license.

Education:

High school diploma, Bachelor’s degree in Business related field preferred.

Any suitable combination of education and experience will be considered.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities

  • Must have valid driver’s license if you drive for company business.
  • Process information and merchandise through system and POS Register system.
  • Read, write, and count to accurately complete all documentation.
  • Freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, side lot, stock area, and register area.
  • Operate and use all equipment necessary to run a store such as a dolly, hand-truck, forklift, computer, and cash register.
  • Move and transfer merchandise generally weighing 0-50 lbs. throughout the store.
  • Work varied hours, days, nights, and weekends as business dictates, plus six days a week during peak seasons in the spring and fall.
  • Work a minimum of 50 hours per week.
  • Stand and walk for long periods of time often up to four hours straight without a break.
  • Travel to other store locations and to company functions.
  • Understanding that you may be asked to relocate withing 100 mile radius of any WD Bryant store location.
  • Ability to operate Lift equipment.

- Provide prompt and courteous customer service.

- Precisely and accurately handle money, checks, and other types of payment received for products sold including processing refunds and/or issuing in-store merchandise credit to customers for returned merchandise.

- Perform credit card transactions, manufacturer coupon redemption, personal check acceptance, and vendor check-in transactions by company standards, and policies, and practices.

- Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by store management displaying a “Speed is Life” attitude. Move with a sense of urgency while paying attention to the details.

- Cooperate with others and work well as part of a retail team, for example, actively participate in daily huddle meetings, and share ideas for improvement with management.

- Remove promotional bin tags from displays, and price tags as required following sales events, flyers, etc.

- Restock merchandise displays as needed, and watch end caps and side wings.

- Assist with maintaining back stock levels.

- Handle special orders for all non-stock items. It always takes two associates to say “No.” Never tell a customer “no” without checking with a floor manager, assistant manager, or store manager.

- Watch for shoplifters and take action, in line with company policy, that will discourage shoplifting. Excellent customer service and interaction prevent shoplifting.
