Position Philosophy:  The duties of the Store Manager position are to be performed by demonstrating and leading Stan’s Merry Mart core values.

The Store Manager’s position is responsible for the complete day-to-day operation of the store. The Store Manager is responsible for maximizing store sales and profitability, along with minimizing expenses while ensuring that the store is optimally stocked and merchandised, and that every customer every time has an exceptional experience. A store manager contributes to the growth and development of the management team and store associates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Sales & Operations

  • Monitor inventory levels on a monthly basis to ensure store maintains an accuracy level of less than 25 outs per 1000 square feet.
  • Coordinate the overall daily supervision of retail staff to ensure that monthly sales performance goals are met and company procedures are followed accurately.
  • Delegate daily workload to assistant managers and appropriate personnel to meet cultural, merchandising, operational, and visual presentation standards.
  • Conduct 90 day and annual employee evaluations every month (on employee’s anniversary month) to provide feedback for improvement and growth opportunities.
  • Open and close the store as needed.
  • Assisting with conducting interviews, annual reviews, IDPS (Individual Development Plans) as directed and needed.
  • Involved with producing the monthly schedule for employees.     
  • Work with vendors to develop merchandising strategies for their products and have them assist with their plan-o-gram and updates.

Customer Service

  • Promote Customer Service as The #1 Priority. This must be accomplished on a daily basis through coaching monitoring employee’s performance and interactions on the sales floor.
  • Regularly promote and teach the concept of “Every Customer Every Time” on the sales floor, leading by example and through coaching. Use huddles and store meetings as the venue to communicate concept.
  • Respond immediately to all customer complaints and resolve them within 48 hours – along with other management personnel.
  • Complete at minimum two (2) Employee Observation sheets every month and provide coaching to the employees to ensure consistency of service to all customers.
  • Complete 1-2-1s with all employees monthly along with the rest of the management team.
  • Discipline staff and address other staffing issues when necessary. Reviews these issues and needs with the owners either before or directly after necessary action is taken.  

Coaching and Training

  • Identify appropriate training for store associates and oversee all training requirements on a monthly basis for all associates (New-Hire orientation, on-the-job training, and vendor training).
  • Hire, train and develop retail staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide performance feedback and recognize accomplishments.
  • Conduct quarterly store meetings to communicate store/company goals, and provide appropriate training to the staff.
  • Utilize daily huddles to facilitate training topics and coach the staff.
  • Actively participate and monitor that employees are recognized and appreciated

Safety Compliance and Housekeeping

  • Enforces safety policies and procedures on a daily basis; is a safety role model.
  • Enforces housekeeping procedures on a daily basis to ensure and maintain the best store appearance

Additional Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have previous management experience and retail knowledge
  • Technically skilled in basic computer knowledge and software (such as, Word, Excel, Email, internet research)
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to provide motivation and leadership to employees store-wide.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Place proper priorities on work to be done.
  • Have good concept of overall management responsibilities.
  • Keep well informed on facts important to management.
  • Fair and impartial in dealing with employees.
  • Communicate well with others, and work well as part of a retail team.
  • Provide and accept constructive suggestions and instructions.

  • Superb written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Be technically proficient in using Epicore Software and have a fundamental understanding of how information flows through the system.
  • High School degree, some college preferred.  Possess a vast product knowledge of hardware related products along with a willingness to learn. At least 3 to 5 years of managerial and supervisory experience in business management.
  • Technically skilled in basic computer knowledge and software (such as, Word, Excel, Email, internet research)
  • Develops and maintains client relationships and strategic partnerships throughout the organization, including employees, management staff, other organizations, and general public.
  • Always polite and attentive to customers and staff.
  • Dress appropriately and according to company policy.

Physical Demands: 

  • Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to reach, bend, balance, lift and transport various objects weighing up to 30 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift; at times, product weight may reach 50 lbs. Requires the ability to move heavy product with assistance
