Position Objective

To deliver Petroleum/Propane and other products, provide equipment, and related services in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve the cooperative’s

efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service.

The delivery/Technician drives a delivery truck and fills tanks for residential, agriculture and commercial customers at their site. The Delivery person may make 10-25 customer stops on a

typical day.

Position Responsibilities

  • The delivery driver and service technician’s responsibilities involve sales, service, safety and maintenance, reporting, and other duties as assigned by management.
  • The delivery driver and service technician is responsible for maintaining a sufficient inventory of parts and materials necessary in the installation and servicing of customer equipment.
  • The delivery driver and service technician is also available to deliver Petroleum/Propane on an as needed basis (on call schedule).
  • The delivery driver and service technician will maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the cooperative and a favorable image of the cooperative.
  • Drive the delivery truck to customer sites and fill customer tanks of all sizes by pulling the trucks hose from the truck to the tank location.

Position Requirements

  • Commercial Drivers License with HAZMAT and Air Brake endorsements, and acceptable driving history
  • Liquid Tanker Endorsement
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and driving conditions
  • Ability to walk 1 to 5 miles, climb steps/ladders and traverse unimproved terrain
  • Bending and climbing in and out of the truck
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Able to lift 100 Lbs.
  • Current Health Card

Position Compensation

Service

Service involves performing customer tank maintenance; pressure testing as required; resolving customer complaints; and delivering, connecting, and maintaining propane equipment.

Customer Service

1. Respond to customer inquiries and service calls in a timely fashion

2. Make recommendations to customers for efficient storage and proper equipment

Customer Tanks and Equipment

1. Perform Site Checks or service work as necessary

2. Install tanks and equipment as necessary

3. Ensure customer has properly installed or efficiently maintained equipment

Perform routine customer tank maintenance

1. Schedule routine tank maintenance and inspections as necessary

Resolve customer complaints promptly

1. Resolve customer complaints personally or seek assistance from others within the department

Safety and Maintenance

Safety and maintenance involves maintaining rolling stock and all petroleum department fixed assets, communicating safe storage and handling procedures to all customers, delivering bulk

orders safely, following regulations, operating the delivery vehicle safely, maintaining the delivery vehicle, and upholding cooperative safety policies.

Equipment

1. Maintain vehicles and equipment as recommended by the manufacturer

2. Report any needed repairs or special maintenance to your supervisor immediately

3. Do not exceed unit expenses of annual budget

4. Wash and wax vehicle as weather and operating conditions require to maintain a clean vehicle

5. Maintain a clean uncluttered interior of the vehicle

Communicate safe storage and handling procedures to all customers

1. Ensure customers are informed of safe product handling

2. Provide customers with safety materials

Deliver and setting tanks safely

1. Use extreme caution while driving in customers’ yards; drive slowly and watch for children, pets, animals, toys, flowerbeds, hedges, and lawns

2. Avoid damage to customers’ buildings and property when positioning for unloading or setting tanks

3. Observe and report any unusual activity, problems, and customers’ complaints to your supervisor

4. Watch for overhead wires or other overhead obstructions when operating equipment

Follow regulations

1. Observe OSHA, state, and federal safety regulations

2. Follow all company and regulatory agency safety policies

3. Maintain a valid commercial drivers license

4. Maintain a valid DOT Health Card

5. Complete all safety tests and inspections as required

Operate delivery and tank setting vehicle safely

1. Check lights and safety equipment daily

2. Obey all traffic laws, including:

a. Driving within posted speed limits;

b. Stopping and looking for traffic at all stop signs and railroad crossings

3. Drive defensively

4. Report any unsafe equipment or working conditions to your supervisor

5. Allow no riders who have not been approved by your supervisor

Uphold cooperative safety policies

1. Ensure department facilities and equipment meet federal, state, and OSHA regulations

2. Make recommendations on replacement, additions, or deletions of facilities and equipment when needed and/or economically justified

Reporting

Reporting involves invoicing all product deliveries promptly and accurately, submitting daily trip reports, and informing supervisor of outstanding conditions. Invoice all deliveries, service work and tank installations promptly and accurately

1. Ensure all sales tickets and invoices presented to the office are legible and correct

2. Present a copy of each transaction to the customer after each delivery

3. Turn all sales tickets and service invoices into the office daily

4. Ensure all cash receipts are turned in daily and are accurate

Submit daily trip reports

1. Submit trip report to supervisor daily

2. Fill out trip report completely and accurately

3. Inform your supervisor of discrepancies in your reports and invoices as soon as you are aware of them

Inform supervisor of outstanding conditions

1. Inform your supervisor of potential problems or potential new business opportunities directly or indirectly related to your department

Other Duties

The delivery driver and service technician will uphold cooperative policies, perform other duties as assigned by management, and will enforce and uphold the cooperative’s credit policy.
